Court of Honor

Hoss was in charge of conducting the last Court of Honor as part of the communications merit badge. In his planning, he decided that he wanted to do a flag retirement ceremony as part of the program. My parent's neighbor had a flag, as you can see, extremely tattered and torn, still flying on their pole. With the help of my dad, Hoss went over to his house and politely asked if he could retire his flag as part of a ceremony for Boy Scouts. We weren’t sure if this would offend the neighbor or not, however he was more than grateful and said he already had a new flag, but just hadn’t found the time to replace it. When we think of flag etiquette, a tattered flag should never be flown. The ceremony was so beautiful, so patriotic, and so humbling to watch.

Mystery Missionary BYD

The BYD this month was a Mystery Missionary Panel. We had 6 returned missionaries, that live in our ward, hidden and the youth had to guess Who they were and Where they served. The youth were divided up in teams and given a list of all the people in our Ward that have served missions and another list of places they served. The youth were placed in the Relief Society room with the 6 panel members hidden in the Primary room. Jim Stewart provided a voice alteration system that kept the game interesting and hilarious.  Each team started out with 20 points and were docked 10 points for each missed question and awarded 15 points for each correct guess. They were not allowed to ask the contestants who they were or where they served. Other questions were open. Team ‘Wasted Potential’ won with 85 points. After all the missionaries were revealed the contestants and youth met in the gym for yummy apple cobbler provided by Brian Wolfe and the chance to view tables set up by the contestants, Bishopric and their wives.

December Pack Meeting

Pack meeting brought the annual Carnival.  We decided to make it a marble carnival so they could mark off two belt loop adventures in one.  We paired the boys up and gave them an assignment to create a game using marbles.  But we also wanted to do a disability strategy to it also.  So, one game was marble gold, but they could only use one hand.  Another was they had to make a drawing blindfolded.

They was also some games that were just fun, with no hidden tricks, like this marble plinko board.

Hoss was paired with Jake DeVos and they made a marble racetrack.  But they had to use mittens to place the marble in the racetrack.

 Boone thought it was fun.

Turkey Day

Lilli made it for Thanksgiving!! I love having all my kids under the same roof!  And you can tell by the sleeping arrangement that I'm not the only one that has missed her.

I love that my family gets together for holidays.  It give the grandkids cousin time.

9 of the grandkids were able to make it for dinner.

Grit got some time with Uncle Matt.

Boone is just like my sister, DJ.  He sleeps with his eyes open.

I love that they just pile on top of each other all the time.

And pretend to be sleeping to avoid pictures.

Scout Campout

Brandon went with the scouts on their monthly campout.  He took Hoss with him and they bad a blast.

 Hoss was able to go fishing and caught a fish!  They went to Dry Creek, outside of Westfall, Oregon.

We had a Knights theme for roundtable this month.

But we also had the Ambulance crew come in and teach some first aid.

Scouting for Food

Scouting for food is always fun.  I love to see the donation of food come in to support the scouts and food pantry.

This Saturday is always a busy one with kids and sports, so not many people show up for the actual food pick up.  But those that show up, put forth great effort!

Fright Night

Duke found a cat skull outside.

Such a perfect find on halloween!

For costumes, Duke was willing to wear his Army guy suit again. He kept saying he already wore it for preschool so he needed a new costume, but in the end, he put it on.

Hoss is getting to the stage where dressing up is a bore.  So we convinced him that being a farmer wouldn't be so bad.  He humored us and went with it, not sure how much longer he will.

Primary Program

Again, I am so proud of these boys!  They both memorized their parts for the primary program.

Duke's part: "I treat my body as a temple by eating nutritious food and reading good books"

Hoss was asked to speak on the Scripture Hero challenge that has been in this year's Friend magazine.  I think he's really the only kid that is working hard on memorizing every scripture, every month.  He's been working so hard on writing and memorizing his part.  And he NAILED it!

October Pack Meeting

This month's pack meeting was pretty cute.  Awards were passed out as usual, but our cubmaster made an obstacle course.

Duke had a great time.  I'm glad they let siblings join in on the fun too.
