Our Cubmaster is currently serving overseas. When I heard he was coming home, I wanted to make it special. I got permission from the City Manager to hang a big banner over the road, and to hang signs throughout town. We held a sign making party a couple nights before his scheduled arrival. I appreciated those people who turned up to support the cause.
I arranged with his wife ahead of time, so she could help us know what time he would arrive back in town. That way I could get the word out to people to head to town and line the streets to welcome him back.
With the help of Stepleton Electric, we hung the banner over the main street in town.
I really liked the way it looked.
However, the wind got too strong and broke the line, so we had to take it down. Brandon was nice enough to bring his sprayer down and open up a boom so we could hang it there instead.
The Boy Scouts placed the flags down the streets like they do Veterans' Day and such.
One thing I love about this small town, is that fact that we all pull together to support each other. One of the local businesses closed their store so that their entire staff could join us in welcoming him home.
Here they are, holding signs and dressed in America's colors.
I was really pleased with the amount of people that showed up.
All through town.
Some brought US flags.
And some brought Military flags.
People hung signs on their cars.
I also got the Sheriff's Office on board and arranged for a police escort into town.
Someone even captured it on video. Next time, I'll tell the Sheriff's Office not to drive so fast.
When it was over, I had two scouts present me with flowers for arranging the event.
As we were taking down the sign from Brandon's sprayer, Rob came back. Everyone was already gone by this point, so he was only able to thank us. He was very grateful for such a nice welcome home. But we are grateful for his service.
