Change is Good

Sexy Farmer and I had a pretty amazing experience this weekend. We were asked to be the DJ's at a wedding for a young man from our Ward. I'm gonna flash back a little ways to catch you up to date.

For 3 years Sexy Farmer and I were the Music Specialist (DeeJay's) for the Stake Dances. We LOVED this calling and were very sad when we were released when Sexy Farmer got called to be in the Stake Young Men's Presidency.

During those 3 years we had one boy who we always gave a ride to Nyssa for the dances. This young man was really struggling in his life at the time. Everytime we would pick him up for a dance he would ask Sexy Farmer and I questions about Temple Marriage, Church, being a Missionary, and all other phases of the church.

Well, during this time he made a decision to change his life. After he graduated from High School he went on a Mission, and he was just recently married in the Temple.

After the reception was over he ran over to us and asked to talk to us for a few minutes. We figured he was just going to say thanks for playing the music for his wedding, but it was soooo much more.

He wanted to tell us how thankful he was to us for always taking the time to answer his questions about marriage and the church. He thanked us for being such great examples to him while he was growing up and for always being there when he needed us. He thanked us for taking him to all of the dances even though he was only going because his parents made him be there. Then he said that he wouldn't be where he is today, making the right choices in his life, if it wasn't for us.

How amazing this was for me to have someone tell me something like this. How amazing it feels to know that I made an impact on someone else's life in a positive way. I have always heard stories of people who didn't know how to touch the "struggling one" and they have wondered if they have ever said anything that actually made a difference in the lives of the youth they spent so much time working with, but then had the struggling one tell them that they really were listening during all of the lessons at church. Well, I can now say that I have had this experience myself.

This Young Man did not have the kind of relationship with his parents (at this time of his life) to talk about these kinds of topics. If Sexy Farmer and I hadn't been there, doing our job, this young man may not have changed his life. I'm not saying 100% that this is the case, but I know that because I was doing my job, it had a positive affect on this young man, and now I am the one who is THANKFUL!

Spring!

I am so excited for Spring to arrive! Hoss is about fed up with staying in the house. Everytime I'm downstairs folding laundry I come up to find the sliding door open and Hoss nowhere to be found. We live right on the Highway - so this can be a very scary thought. However, he is very good at staying in the backyard and either on the 4-wheelers or on his dirt mound.

I don't think he'll be able to be cooped up anymore. He is his father's child.

Women in Church History

I am the Homemaking Leader in the RS Presidency so lucky me, I have to be in charge of all of the Relief Society Meetings. In March we always Celebrate the Anniversary of the organization of Relief Society by having a Birthday Dinner and Program.

The concept of Relief Society is just amazing to me! I have been digging deep ever since I was called to the Presidency about the organization's history. The Women are truly amazing! So for the Birthday Dinner (which is this Tuesday - AHHH!!) I wanted the Program to be about just that - The Women who have made the Relief Society such an amazing organization.

There have been 15 General Relief Society Presidents thus far in Church History, so we will be having 15 Women from the Ward tell us more about each one, without saying who they are. That's the fun part - we are all going to have to guess and put them in order of their terms.

Which One served for almost 30 years as President? Who chose the colors Blue and Gold as the Relief Society colors? Who founded Mormon Handicraft?

I am so excited to see what the sisters in our Ward come up with for their presentations! I have also learned so much from researching these women! Each one brought their own energy and excitement to the table while they were President. My only hope now is that the program will turn out as good as I'm envisioning. hahahhaha
